About Red Leicester Ultimate Club
Ultimate (frisbee) is a non-contact team sport, and we compete in three divisions: mixed, women's, and open. If you are a fan of other sports, ultimate takes elements from american football (scoring in endzones, athleticism), netball (you cannot run with the disc in your hands), and any other invasion sports played on pitches (football, etc). If you have played other sports before, you'll find that there are many crossover skills.
Ultimate is often considered 'safer' than some other team sports, both in terms of it being non-contact, and the fact that it is self-refereed - players hold eachother accountable, and no one is trying to bend the rules to win. There is also a strong culture of inclusivity woven throughout the community, meaning everyone is welcome. Many players also start playing ultimate for the first time as adults, and regardless of their starting point in terms of fitness/athleticism, still have the opportunity to play at the highest level if they so wish/work hard enough. In addition to this, ultimate is also highly competitive and athletic, and is unique in valuing competitive success and fair play, integrity and spirit equally.
