Exercise Referral is a 12 week programme of personalised physical activity support for people with specific health conditions across Leicestershire and Rutland. Exercise Referral typically takes place in a leisure centre.
As of December 11th 2023 most people will be able to access this scheme without being referred by a healthcare professional (subject to eligibility) To enquire about the Exercise Referral Scheme, please contact your local physical activity services and complete their short contact form
Exercise Referral is available to people aged 16 years and over with an existing health condition that could be improved by physical activity. Your programme will be adapted by our fully qualified and experienced instructors to best support the management of your health condition.
Activities will vary across areas and venues but typically include:
- Fitness/gym based personalised exercise programmes
- Swimming pool-based activities including aqua aerobics
- Low impact group exercise classes such as Tai Chi or seated exercises
Regular reviews will take place to adapt your programme if required throughout the 12 weeks. At the end of the programme you'll be invited to attend an exit consultation. Your progress will be reviewed and opportunities to continue being active will be discussed.
**Please note there is typically a cost to access these services in Leicestershire. Please contact local co-ordinator for full details**
