About KAL Trustee Vacancies

An exciting opportunity to join KAL as a Trustee!

KAL (Kirklees Active Leisure) is first and foremost a Charity, dedicated to providing good quality, customer-focused leisure services to the people of Kirklees and the surrounding area. KAL is a not-for-profit organisation, with any surpluses achieved being re-invested back into the local facilities and services we provide.

While we work closely in partnership with Kirklees Council, we are legally independent from the local authority, with the KAL Board of Trustees ultimately responsible for the Charity.

KAL has a high quality Board of Trustees, looks after a number of major leisure facilities across the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire and has over 600 employees. KAL is the largest employer of under 25's in the Kirklees area.

KAL has now emerged from a very challenging 2023, where the Charity had to significantly re-shape, sadly closing several sites and reducing staff numbers. However, KAL is now looking to proactively move forward once again, with a clear focus upon providing a fantastic range of preventative health & wellbeing opportunities for local people.

We are now looking for two further Trustees who can actively contribute further to KAL and can help to address the future challenges that the Charity faces.

We are seeking new Trustees who:

  • Are passionate about encouraging the local community to become more physically active;
  • Have experience, knowledge and understanding of the wider UK health sector; and/or
  • Have experience of the wider sport and leisure sector, given that KAL's Articles specifically allow for the appointment of a Trustee who is representative of the sport and leisure sector; and/or
  • Have business experience and acumen; and/or
  • Are a suitably qualified accountant; and/or
  • Are a suitably qualified lawyer/ solicitor; and/or
  • Reflect the demographic diversity of Kirklees, with expressions of interest from diverse ethnic communities, women, the LGBT+ community and individuals with additional needs especially welcomed.

KAL Trustee roles are voluntary and therefore unpaid, but with reasonable expenses provided. For further information please request an information pack from recruitment@kal.org.uk. You will then have the opportunity to consider further background information about KAL and the Trustee role and, should you still be interested, be asked to submit an Expression of Interest form and CV. The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 31stMay 2024.
