Bill from Melton
Bill has been active since the age of 15, where his love for physical activity blossomed as he joined a local swimming club, and also a local Judo club. Bill enjoyed trying new activities, as he made new friends and improved his skills and fitness.
Bill's love for water led to him competing canoeing, surfing, slalom and wild water racing. At the age of 35, Bill retired from competitive canoeing, and in the early 1980's he became a founding member of the Leicester Triathlon Club. This helped him go back to swimming, whilst also taking up cycling and running.
After many years of training, Bill decided to take life easy, but he still enjoyed public swim sessions. At the age of 71, Bill was encouraged by a local swim coach to join Melton Mowbray Swimming Club, which led to him competing in Masters swimming events throughout the country.
Since the age of 70, Bill has suffered a number of health problems, but regular swimming and cycling have kept his fitness levels high and continue to delay the onset of age. Physical activity has also helped his mental health, and enabled him to make new friends and inspire younger swimmers in his club to enjoy the fitness benefits of sport alomg with the friendships they make.
