Meet Jack

Jack stays physically activity to raise awareness for bowel cancer.

Jack from Harborough

Jack has always been involved in sport, watching, playing, leading, coaching and officiating. At school, Jack always took part in sport and was very fortunate to take part in a programme called Playground to Podium. The programme gave him lots of incredible opportunities, including residential trips to Stoke Mandeville Games and Hothorpe Hall, as well as being part of Rotary Games teams, which gave him his competitive edge.

While at primary school, Jack played football for an inclusive team at Aylestone FC, and spent a lot of time at secondary school playing table tennis. More recently, he has has concentrated on athletics. Jack is now a member of Saffron Lane Athletics Club, and has been classified as an F37 athlete. Jack's main event is been shot-put, and he is now ranked on Power of 10.

Jack has also returned to football and is now a member of Dunton and Broughton Inclusive Football Club. He started leading in sport when he was still at school and learnt the basics. Now, Jack coaches new age kurling and boccia. He has done this in both school settings and in the community. Jack started his own boccia and kurling clubs which successfully run out of Broughton Astley Village Hall, supported by the Volunteer Association. Jack is also coach at the athletics club and volunteer as an official at school and club events.

At the very start of 2024, Jack was given the unfortunate news that he had bowel cancer. Chemotherapy every two weeks brought a stop to all the activities that he loved to do. Fortunately, six months into treatment, Jack felt stronger and started to get involved in sport again. This had to be non-contact because of the pit line he had for the chemo treatment.

After eight months of cancer treatment, Jack is now on a chemo break and can join in with sports again, returning to the track and table tennis.
