Meet Kevin

Kevin has combined his love for the outdoors with being active.

Kevin from North West Leicestershire

Kevin is the chairman and director of Heartwood Community Woodfuel Group CIC, who are a volunteer group managing woodland in North West Leicestershire. The group has over 130 volunteers who spend their time working in several local woodlands and managing them on behalf of landowners such as the Woodland Trust. The role Kevin plays in the group is diverse, from taking part in the active nature of woodland work, to engaging the community in our group.

The wide-ranging benefits for Kevin and the group include, physical and mental wellbeing, being part of a friendly like-minded group of people, spending time outdoors, caring for the woodlands and the wildlife they support. Since retiring in 2017, Kevin has spent a great deal of time in the woods or working to make the group more successful and accessible to others.

Where is your favourite place to be active and why?

In the woods, it feels like the place we all belong. Keeping fit whilst being connected to nature cant be beaten in my opinion.

For you, what is the best by-product of being active?

Sharing my time with friends, making new friends and working with the community.

What is your one top tip for others looking to be more active?

Don't pre-judge anything, give it a go. You'd be surprised how many groups and people share your aspirations. You may find something that you never even considered before.
