The inclusion of Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA) in the PE curriculum is an indication of the value educationalists place on such activities. Although not a compulsory element in the PE National Curriculum at Key Stage 1, there is no reason why it should not be introduced at this stage.
At present, limited information and training is available to teachers and support staff therefore this OAA Activities Offer to Schools is aimed at helping staff to deliver high quality OAA.
Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) have identified a considerable gap in a high quality, accessible and affordable Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA) offer to schools across Leicestershire, Leicester City and Rutland.
LRS are therefore currently working with a local OAA expert – Alan Jacobs, to create an appropriate offer for schools.
Alan is an experienced PE and Outdoor Education specialist with over 40 years' experience working within different educational settings (early years, primary, secondary and higher education).
Alan was responsible for establishing Leicestershire County Council's guidance on health and safety for educational visits, including residential trips, and has been involved in this area for more than twenty years, mainly as the Service Manager of Beaumanor Hall.
