Saturday 5th March saw #ThisGirlCan partner with parkrun for a second time, aiming to #BreakTheBias by breaking down the barriers many women and girls face when trying to take part in physical activity.
Active Together partnered with local Watermead Park parkrun to do a themed event day! 140 women signed up to be apart of the event, and everyone received a FREE #ThisGirlCan themed T-Shirt & Water bottle! It was amazing to see so many women at the event and Watermead Park also achieved their highest record number of people attend a parkrun event! There was 177 women in attendance which was over 50% of the overall total! The event had such a nice friendly vibe to it and women were coming together to celebrate being active and breaking the bias! We had women attend who had never done a parkrun before which was fantastic to see, and a start of their journey to becoming more active!
Loughborough Female Fitness who are a local group on a mission to make every woman feel apart of a group and they are breaking down barriers for women to be active, targeting ethnic diverse communities. This group of volunteers promote inclusion and create safe places for women to be active in comfortable environments! They decided to do their own version of parkrun whilst they build confidence to get out to a community event! We think they are amazing and are doing great things in the community for women & girls! Well done all!
