Congratulations to both Wyggeston Queen Elizabeth College and Bosworth Academy who made it through to the finals of the U18 Boys Football competition for the second year running.
The first final to take place on the main pitch at Aylestone Park FC on Monday 15th May. The two teams were very evenly match, and from the early exchanges it was clear to see the quality which had taken both teams through to the final. Both teams were able to create chances in the early stages of the game but found themselves being denied by some top-quality goalkeeping and some last ditch defending. Just before half time WQE were awarded a penalty which was converted confidently to give them a 1-0 half time lead.
Both teams returned for second half determined to claim victory. Bosworth Academy almost drew level on several occasions, coming closest when striking the foot of the post from outside the area. WQE twice took a two goal only for Bosworth to hit back on each occasion to reduce the lead to a single goal. Despite battling hard right up until the final whistle, Bosworth were unable to find an equaliser and WQE stood firm to hold onto the lead and reclaim the trophy. Thank you to both teams for providing us with a truly worthy final match!
Final Score:
WQE 3-2 Bosworth Academy
Many thanks to all the teachers and team managers for arranging and taking pupils to fixtures this season and particularly for bringing them along on finals night. Many thanks also go to Steve and Alan from the Leicestershire Schools Football Association and Aylestone Park FC for hosting us at this event! We'd also like to congratulate and thank all of the match officials who did an outstanding job too.
We hope everyone enjoyed the occasion and hopefully we will see you again soon at a future Team Leicestershire County Final event.
