August Sailing for Children with Leicester Charity!

A Leicester-based charity will be running two 'summer schools' for children wanting to get on the water and learn how to sail during the holidays.

Instructors at Leicestershire & Rutland Youth Sailing Association (LRYSA), which is located at John Merricks Lake in Watermead Country Park, Syston, will be running two five-day courses from 5-9 August and 19-23 August.

The courses are for both beginners and for children already able to sail who would like to take their skills to the next level. The courses cost £195 and are available for children and young people aged eight to 18.

LRYSA secretary Jill Magee said: "We're hoping that Paris 2024 will inspire children and young people to make the most of this Olympic sport over summer and as ever we're really looking forward to welcoming all abilities from beginners to advanced.

"As well as the chance to learn or develop sailing skills, we'll also be having fun at the end of each session with activities like paddle boarding. If you know a young person who would like to join us, please do get in touch to sign up or find out more!"

LRYSA is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Recognised Training Centre and participants will be able to work towards RYA Stage 1-2 beginners' certificates or advance to RYA Stages 3-4.

The charity aims to provide inclusive opportunities for local people who may not otherwise have the chance to experience sailing and has a modern clubhouse with around 300 regular participants aged 8 to 80.

All LRYSA instructors are RYA trained and DBS checked with First Aid. Find out more by looking up Leicestershire & Rutland Youth Sailing on Facebook, visit www.lrysa.org.uk or contact Jill Magee - jill@lrysa.org.uk / tel: 01455 619347 or Nicki Magee on 079 7001 3428 / njmagee@hotmail.co.uk
