New all staff training video lands!

A new video, 'Supporting Our Community to be Active,' has been launched by Active Together. Packed with bite-size learning and engaging stories around physical activity, it's designed to inform and inspire both healthcare and non-clinical staff, to feel confident and informed about the Chief Medical Officer guidelines for physical activity.

The new training video from Active Together aims to share tips and essential physical activity information. It's been specially designed to inform and inspire health care professionals and community enablers about the CMO guidelines of physical activity, for general and specialised populations, for both themselves and residents.

In 2019, The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) stated that:

"If physical activity were a drug, we would refer to it as a miracle cure, due to the great many illnesses it can prevent and help treat."

The new video was prepared to enable Active Together to share the CMO messages around physical activity across a broader range of partners in clinical and community roles. Included are bite-sized sections around:

  • What is physical activity?
  • The benefits of living a more active lifestyle.
  • Addressing the myths of being active whilst having long-term health conditions.
  • How to encourage patients and colleagues to be more active within the day.

The video is designed to fill a gap in the training market: ensuring that both health care professionals, non-clinical staff and community enablers are included in the training, in a way that meets their needs. The video is ideal for all partners including:

  • Community based health workers, e.g. social prescribers
  • LACs
  • Midwives
  • Health visitors
  • CFW key workers
  • Social care workers
  • Support workers
  • Mental Health Neighbourhood leads
  • Health care professionals including non-clinical staff
  • Community enablers and front-line staff working with residents in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The content and video style and provide consistency of messaging and signposting opportunities into the work of Active Together. Filmed in Leicestershire, the production of the video includes advocates of Active Together's existing network, enabling them to share the messages on a peer level.

Jo Spokes, Strategic Lead from Active Together says,

At Active Together we have a role to play to promote and raise the profile of the importance of physical activity linked to good health and wellbeing. We know that not everyone feels they are able to be active and we need to provide the support and opportunities to help people to move a little more in their everyday activities. However, as a team we can't do this alone, we need to work with our communities and our partners and all share the messaging of "Let's Get Moving". We hope this training video will inspire others to have conversations to promote moving more and help us to make LLR a happier and healthier place to live.

With thanks to all partners and Active Together Staff who contributed their time and energy to make the training video, including:

  • Hannah Williams, Neighbourhood Mental Health Lead at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust
  • Dr Kirk Moore, Senior GP Partner, Measham Medical Centre
  • Luke Barnett, Receptionist, Measham Medical Centre
  • Jo Spokes, Georgia James, Leanne Plummer (Active Together)
